It plays really similar. Just feels heavier. I think because the weight distribution is the same it has the same feeling. The extra weight makes it feel a bit more ballsy though.

Sounds fair, I was curious if the added weight would increase spin time or make it feel chunkier on the string but with the same weight distribution I can see it having a similar feel over all. Now I just have to figure out a way to quantify "ballsy".

I just couldn't resist the opportunity to recycle this:

Yeah I'm excited to see some reviews of what people think. It's pretty cool have the exact same yoyo in a different weight.

just got my shutterfly yesterday
way super stoked about it.
excited for the good weather too so i can stand out in the grass and throw.
can't do it in the house. my kitten is too interested in the yoyo and not quite sure of the sound.

1.) Shutterfly is one of the best looking colorways i've seen to date.

2.) making a yoyo out of 7075 not only is a very cool idea but it gives people who want something heavier without changing the feel of the yoyo(like side effects sometimes do) an option. also if you like the feel of the code 2 with a certain side effect but that side effect feels too light, you an have a heavier yoyo rather than a heavier side effect.

honestly, one of the coolest ideas ever!!!

Now that I've had it for a while, I've got more thoughts on the differences, and they are different. Other than the weight, the biggest difference is that the GZR is more stable - I think for 1a it's the better of the two as far as being a competition throw, though both are more than suitable. However, the original has a surface that's a tad more grindable, and I like the original better for 5a - the slightly less stability makes for easier corrections when the yoyo is out of plane, as happens more often with 5a tanglers and such. All that said, both are simply badass yoyos.

I know I'm not in a position to come across as "objective," but what I wrote is actually a rather toned down version of what I think. If I hadn't been censoring myself I'd have said that I think it's the best damn yoyo in the universe.

I thought it would be appropriate for me to break my silence this once to comment on the GZR code2. First off, thanks to OneDrop – Shaun and David, for seeing past the animosity and trying something a bit different. For those of us who cannot experiment with materials and shapes – it is a great learning experience as well as a fabulous yoyo to play with. It is amazing to see and feel the differencethat a few grams of weight can make.

I like the Code2 GZR. I also like the Code2 in its native form, but I agree with the designer on his observations about the two. The GZR has a much greater spin time as well as stability. I would go further to say that because of its increased weight, it seems a bit quicker on the string. After playing the GZR and then switching back to the original – the original almost seems like it has been slowed down. I know, this is the increased weight adding to the speed of the GZR – but I like it. This increased weight, however, makes the GZR a bit less maneuverable in tight spaces than its older-brother. I would agree that the GZR would be better for competition due to its great spin-time. That both yoyos are great yet different, is a testament to a design that works well in any material :-)

7075 offers a different feel than 6061 – but clearly, the shape is of greater importance. Many of the qualities that make 7075 more attractive to me also dictate the design for that material. The two are different – so their designs are different. I would like to see what OD designers would do given 70705 as the starting point for the design…

So true and we may just do that, but expect to see other existing models in the GZR format :) Glad you like it man.

The awesomeness of the GZR name just dawned on me today.

Love this idea. I guess I've grown to really like the feel of 7075 yoyos. I suppose I better jump on this CODE2...

GZRnside? Oh man... That thing would be a killer.
