Ok, what do the M1 and Wednesday December 3, 2008 12:00am have in common? That's when the first affordable ($60) high performance aluminum yoyo was dropped at YoyoNation! How do I know that? I stayed up until midnight to make sure I was able to purchase a couple of them as the first metal yoyos for my son and I, and I've got my YoyoNation receipt to prove it!
So, what does that have to do with 3D? Well, I was staring at one of the original pictures this morning and my eyes were being lazy, after reading through a pile of technical reports, and suddenly, the image blurred and turned into 3D!
You all have seen the 3D stereoscopic images that were popularized in the Magic Eye books, right? Well, the composition of one of the original M1 pictures is such that, with a little eye crossing, you can make the yoyos in the center of the picture pop as though they are 3D!
Here's what you do, look at the picture below and cross your eyes enough so that instead of 5 yoyos, there are 6 (so that the middle four overlap). Move your head slightly and you will notice the 4 central yoyos stand out 3D-like from the background, very similar to a 3D stereoscopic image! Cool? I think so! Here's the picture, go stare at it!
