Re: CODE1 Bearing Rim Caps Prototype
These things look awesome, RSM's are definitely on my list of things to get, and these would be amazing for them.

Am I the only one wondering what keeps the caps from rubbing against the rims? Is it just super rigid plastic? It seems to be. The plastic that I used is PLA, a rigid biodegradable plastic. Also, the caps are offset from the rims by a few millimeters. The way the slots are printed make them rigid yet cuts down the overall weight. They will rub only if you strongly grab them from the side of the rim. saintrobyn wrote: Chu,
I have a buddy who is huge into the Maker-Bot scene here in Columbus. Any chance you would post your files for printing these? I would love to have him print me out a pair to try. That is awesome! When you print the first one out, test fit it onto the bearing before printing another one. You want the fit to be pretty snug. The ones I had in the video both came flying off one time after I threw the yoyo funny. It wobbled just at the right frequency to loosen and fling them in opposite directions! Scale the whole part down by 0.1% to tighten the fit. I'll make some test stacks too so that you don't have to print out the whole cap just to find out it doesn't fit. Let me know if you have any trouble printing these. I know the gcode generator can be finicky with thin parts. The Machinist wrote: Build em! sell em! But seriously, I have a lot of RSM/hubstack tricks and it's a little bit hard to catch the tiny ricestacks sometimes (I am pretty good at catching them though). So I would love to try one of these, greater trick possibilities! Yes, please find access to a 3D printer and print out a pair! Contact your local or nearby Hacker Spaces to see if they have a 3D printer you can use.

Re: CODE1 Bearing Rim Caps Prototype
Hey Chu, When I contacted my buddy Ethan about printing out a set this was his response: Quote: Chris - it's likely that I can print a set, though my printer is not the same model nor does it have the same fine-point nozzle as the one described in the Thingiverse entry (I have a CupCake with a 0.5mm nozzle). So it will be functionally similar but slightly coarser.
I need to get ready for the 2nd Anniversary of the Central Ohio RepRap and Makerbot Operators User Group meeting in two weeks at the Columbus Idea Foundry, but after that, we can talk. Do you think his set up will be able to properly print a pair?

Re: CODE1 Bearing Rim Caps Prototype
I think Ethan's Cupcake can print it out just fine. The most critical part is getting the cap to fit snugly on the bearing. Here's a comparison of a ToM and Cupcake print to give you an idea of the difference in quality: http://www.makerbot.com/blog/2011/01/17/tom-vs-cupcake/

I'd like to share that MAKE is giving away a MakerBot Thing-O-Matic today: http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2011/1 ... -of-5.html The odds are pretty good with only about 400 entries now.

No clue, it's in our manufacturing lab, and I didn't even use it, I had my buddy run me some. I'll be getting them from him monday

I don't think I can do that They are pretty spendy to make, since we use an older printer at my school. I made two sets, one for me, and one for David and Shawn. I would be willing to make a trade of some sort, if you are interested send me a PM

Please let me know if you have ideas for improvements (I know there's room for it ). In my recent prints, I found that on my machine, scaling down the part to .999% in ReplicatorG gave me the proper fit and they don't fly off anymore.

Re: CODE1 Bearing Rim Caps Prototype
I had no problem with them flying off, though I wasn't a code1 OR RSMs, they worked with another hubstacked yoyo that I had. (Aoda cherry blossom) and worked really well for palm grinds. I don't own a code1, or RSMs. But may be obtaining RSMs later. Though the caps will be used with my DANG, since it's only .75mm difference between the diameter of the yoyos.
