Post White M1
Pretty random question and I'm not sure if anyone has tried this BUT...

Anyone had any success painting / dying / some other process of colouring an M1 white?

If so, any tips? Would I need to get this done proffessionally? Is it even possible?

We (Shawn and I, plus our "stealth" team member Dirty Birdy) have spent a lot of time and energy looking into powder coating. The bottom line is that it's not as easy a problem as it first appears. First off, powder coating is THICK, therefore HEAVY. Since the thickness of the coating is not consistent from place to place on the yoyo halves it causes vibe. Vibe = Low quality yoyos, One Drop = High Quality yoyos :^)

Another issue is the bearing seat. The bearing seat has to be coated with something that is both hard and consistently high tolerance. Anodizing finish has a VERY consistent thickness. Powder coating is neither thin enough nor consistent enough to hold tolerances on the bearing seat. See????

Keep those interesting questions coming, you never know when your question will lead to that magical technological BREAKTHROUGH that will lead to white yoyo's.

First one to name the reference for the above quote wins a bow of reverence and admiration from the dirty birdy.

We could potentially make some M1's in Plastic, if it was made out of Delrin (a dense type of plastic) or HDPE, the yoyo could be white. Delrin is super smooth. Almost like Teflon. The problem with this idea is that unless we can find a plastic with the same (or similar) density as Aluminum, it would make a terrible yoyo. Each yoyo we design has to be carefully shaped so that the weight comes out just under 68 grams. This is a laborious process of trial and error (T&E), or as we like to call it "Iterative Targeting (IT)." Which is distinctly different from target and error. T&E is random IT is not. IN IT you get closer to your goals with each shot. See?? Think Big. We do!

I'm going to go with Pink Floyd, "The Wall." That line is from the last song on the album, "The Trial"....

Breaking News on White M1 Yoyo.

Shawn has come up with a way to make a white M1! Actually it was someone else that thought it up we just "discovered" it. No promises on whether or not we will actually do a run of white M1s but at least now we know it is possible. The technique involves laser engraving over a blue anodized finish. Where the laser removes the blue anno, it leaves behind a very thin coating of aluminum oxide which along with the residual blue anno gives the appearance of being white. It is basically an optical illusion. But a very effective one. The "actual" color of the yoyo is grey, but it looks white under most normal lighting conditions. Way to go Shawn!

For those wondering, it was the Kyo Senza Nome that had this effect on the rim. It's purdy.

If there are 11 colors that the M1 can be purchased in, what is the difference between those colors and white? What makes white so special?
