Introduction: Since I expect almost no-one knows me here, I should probably do this. I started yoyoing about two years ago when a friend at my school introduced me to it. I haven't had much of an online presence, unfortunately, and I haven't yet been able to attend any contests. I have yet to meet another yoyoer besides those I have taught and my friend who first introduced me to the hobby. Currently I'm trying to pick 3-4 yoyos from my fifteen or so to come with me to college – it's not easy.

Design: I've been playing around with different yo-yo design for a bit under a year now, but I haven't actually gotten any prototypes produced. Hopefully next summer I will be working at a local engineering company as an intern, so I'll have access to a lathe. In any case, I've got a bit of experience playing around with Solidworks at a local university.

Finally, the yoyo: My vision is simplicity – modern guts and a straight catch zone that tapers to a rounded rim. I am aiming for the middle of the size spectrum, offering maximal performance in a small package that only creates a slightly uncomfortable bulge in you pocket rather than a bruise. I want this yo-yo to be competition-worthy, and I foresee it as one of those solid but fast throws. I intend for this yo-yo (currently named Edwin, by the way) to represent One Drop's heart of clean, functional simplicity with an added competitive edge.

No-one can resist side effect, so there we are. With <1 mm between the response groove and the beginning of the straight catch zone, I'm expecting Edwin to be stable for its size. I also aimed for a comfortable (steps are cool and all...but sometime, ouch!) yet rim-weighted design. A lot of the finer points of the design with probably change over time.

Oh! I almost forgot. I would love to see a tumbled/blasted catch zone with straight anodized hubs. Shiny and grindy much?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I love this design and I'll get it made somehow, someday; as such, I'd greatly appreciate any constructive criticism.

Thanks for the opportunity not just to put my own ideas into a design, but to put myself out there. I seriously doubt I'll win, but I'm going to enjoy seeing what people have to say about it. Thank you for giving me the motivation to actually get it drawn up (again) and to show Edwin off!

Oh man. You just stole a piece of my heart with this design. I need this yoyo. Seriously.

I know the shape has been done, but the slightly curved catch zone with a more rounded off OD of the rim (compared to YYR stuff) just makes this WIN for me.

I halfway want to say that I wish the side wall/face of the yoyo was rounded off (think 5-Star, Torrent, etc.), but I like the flat sides as is (more comfy in pocket, etc.).

I feel that there is definitely something to be said about the simplicity and elegance of the design, and I actually feel like it would be awesome just soda/bead blasted and clear coated (anodized), similar to how it's displayed in your CAD images.

I'm glad you like it! I was thinking about beefing up the rims like you said, but I really love the look of the flat rims. I drew this up in a program that didn't let me mass it though, so I expect I'll have to add weight somewhere.

I'm glad I have a fan, I'll certainly need them. Dunno if you remember me, but I bought a custom anodized pink/purple TT off of you a bit over a year ago. Gotta say, it was probably the best transaction I've had.

thanks! beefier as in rounded out, or beefier as in flat but longer? It will have to be beefed up somehow just to get a good weight, but I'm not really sure how I want to do it.

A good example to go off of would be the Super G. Make the rims beefier that way.

Please do not beef up the rims in that manner. There are enough of those yoyos out there. I was thinking maybe just round out the sides, but don't touch the profile at all.

Yeah, I really don't think I want to put a step in there. The only way I might expect to change the profile would be tweaking the dimensions...the extra beefiness will have to be delivered on the interior or edge of the rim, methinks

The shape is amazing. Stepped rim would feel soo good and play soo nice. But yeah its all preference. Looks really great so far

looks like a YYRE + YYF Superstar + SE for me.... but i just LOVE IT!!!

Best design submission by far so far. If it were up to me, I'd boost the dimensions by a millimeter or two, but what you have is quite solid already.

I love this design. But it would be nice to see what it might look like as maybe 55 or 56mm in diameter. At least in shape I think this is kind of what I was hoping for in my approach, but had the lack of skill and means to draw it up like you. Awesome design! I hope it gets made.

@yomartyo, I saw your topic and, like you, I'm a big fan of v-shaped throws. The first version of this I drew actually ended up right about 40/56. I'm really not sure exactly what I want the dimensions to be...56 seems like it would almost be too big in the hand though, as I'm really aiming for something more mid-size. 56mm an option that I have considered though.

Please don't make it bigger. There are enough of those already.

^I don't see why making it bigger would be a bad thing. Who cares if there's enough of those around already. This would certainly be a new design for OD and I think that's more the idea behind these CODE's. I'd say make it bigger so it plays more to competition standards. I really don't think that's a bad thing. I also appreciate IBS idea about beefing up the rims. I think with these two editions this would be an amazing competition throw. Just my two cents.

I really don't think I want to add a step, at least for this one. I agree, it probably would play well, but I think we can find other ways to make it play well without sacrificing the elegant shape

I may be more flexible about diameter, but, as justin said, there are already a huge number of 56 throws. More importantly, however, I really just feel like 40/53 would make a really comfortable and convenient throw. I think the only way I'd really be able to decide between the two would be to try prototyped of them side by side.

I think we would be able to make this guy look and play amazing with a larger diameter and a slightly stepped/beefed up rim, but at the same time, the current shape and diameter are very appealing to me, and I think, a few others. Maybe we'll have to do a poll...haha

I really dig the look of this yoyo. The angle is great and I like that the step is almost unnoticeable, I'm not even sure if it's there .

it's really just a change of a few degrees in the slope rather than a step. Works great, in my opinion
