 Re: CATTOOS!?
Obvious fakes- horrible idea. I have one of those Nekkid cats and she would sooner take your arm off than have you poke her with a needle. I have tattooed dogs for breeder purposes (just a series of small numbers)- fairly common practice, and I have seen pigs with numbering as well...but this would not work on a cat I do not think- the pain involved with tattooing would probably send them into immediate and fatal shock

Not if you used an animal tranquilizer, and then made them wear a cone while it healed.
Still not sure if they're real or not. But the thought of having a hairless cat with a chest piece is downright hilarious.

 Re: CATTOOS!?
They are real. There are many cats like that, especially in Asian countries. They do it to pigs, cats, rats, etc. I've seen dogs with tattoos, fish with tattoos and piercings. I don't know why the pain would put the animal into shock. Animals are just as resilient as us humans. Animals can endure lots of stress and pain, it's rather unfortunate. Just think about animal testing and what allot of the animals go through. Some stuff is so bad that we'd never make it ourselves and it's all at the hand of someone else.

 Re: CATTOOS!?
No, indeed hypovolemnic shock is a lot more likely in a bleeding cat than it is in a bleeding human as it is related to volume of blood loss by percentage (about 1/5 of blood volume loss would cause it to occur), which during a tattoo is exponentially less in a human than it is in a cat. That is not to say cats bleed more or less (or have a greater propensity for shock), but that they bleed out faster. Not denying the fact that very small tattoos could be done on cats, but unless someone was willing to a. do the tattoo over numerous settings (like you would a chest piece on a human) and b. transfuse...there is no way the tattoos in the picture could be done. A pig, yes, as a pigs blood volume is a lot closer to a humans. Perhaps even a large dog. But this need not be a Physiology discussion, just look at the tattoos in the pictures, they are obvious fakes. That said, I hope we can all agree that the practice, could it be done, is a cruel one. Except for the kid and the markers- that is just amusing.

 Re: CATTOOS!?
Sorry, we'll have to agree to disagree.
The markers are rather funny though.

 Re: CATTOOS!?
Anybody have a hairless cat, some ketamine, a veterinary cone, and tattoo equipment? We could find out if this can be done or not.

While their bodies and blood might be a little different compared to a pig or a human, it's not drastic enough to cause the animal to die due to blood loss. If that was the case, wouldn't giving a cat an IV or several shots in a row, cause instant death, or at least cause substantial blood loss? Hypodermic needles go as deep and deeper than a tattoo needle will ever go. I just don't see it ever happening unless the moron that's tattooing the animal is, well... a moron. You can adjust the height of the needles in the tattoo machine. I'm sure they just bring it up a click or two. If not, I still don't see it being any real harm. Most animals are sedated when they are being tattooed anyways. While I don't condone or even think it's "cool" and artistic, the risk factor is rather low. The biggest issue would be infection and keeping the flesh clean, that would cause more problems than anything. If you think about it, when you were tattooed, how much did you bleed? Little to none, right? It's no different on an animal, it's how the machine and skin operates, it doesn't penetrate arteries or big vessels, the pigment is deposited into the dermis. IF the needles went deep enough, then maybe there would be an issue, they would hit arteries and cause blood loss, I still don't think it's enough to cause death, maybe if it didn't clot and the wound wasn't attended to in a proper manner, you'd be at more risk with toxicity in your blood then anything else. -------

 Re: CATTOOS!?
Ever played with cat skin? It is a hell of a lot thinner than you think (you can create a fatal cut with a matt knife...in fact, you can tear it with your bare hands) . 5 years of grooming experience, coupled with 5 (from the wife) as an emergency vet tech (gotta have some kind of job in college huh?)- We have both have seen cats "bleed out" and go into shock during a flea bath. It is not the dermis...it is not the needle depth, it is not the amount of blood you see- it is the total volume of blood loss here that counts. It is not the amount of blood on the table, it is the percentage. And yes, you are correct- an improperly done IV is fatal- a well done one is kosher as it is related to one vein, not many, and easily controlled after the fact. An aside, I bleed like a stuck pig when i get tattooed (I think I have 12 of them)... how is it you guys don't bleed? Want to convince me- do it. Film it. Record the costs ($1500 is what my naked cats first owner paid for pet quality...meaning she has a tuft of hair on her ass). Do a whole body on it like the picture and send it to me...then I will be convinced. I would offer up my nakkie as she is a total PITA, but when her owner died (cancer) I promised to give the damn thing a good home. STUPID...now I am stuck with an alien I want to tattoo The dogs (small tats) and pigs are real Agreeing to disagree...but my inner ten year old is still asking for proof

 Re: CATTOOS!?
I do hope you realize the the full body cat was done in different time frames. Not all at once. I would agree, there could be fatality if the whole body piece was done at once.
I don't know. I guess we could debate it forever until it's actually been captured on video. I personally don't think it'll happed. Mostly because I've seen my fair share of animals (cats) that have been mauled by dogs, lawn mower blades, barbwire fences, etc. They all survived, their blood loss (including percentage) was much more that anything that could be achieved by a tattoo machine. From my experience, they are / have been more resilient than what you say they are. Maybe we just have different breeds or something, maybe they are tougher around here, hahaha. I am not sure.
Still, good discussion either way.
