Post Cafe-Racer String snapping?
Hey,

So I recently obtained a Cafe-Racer, flamethrower and thunderstorm. On the same day, I broke 2 strings with my flamethrower and 1 string with my thunderstorm. Thankfully, no damage. But I was confused. Isn't this a Pyramatte finish? It shouldn't snap string right?

I have 2 CafeRacers and neither of mine "snapped" any strings. That does sound weird. Silly question but the string is not sitting in the bearing seat w/ the bearing on top when you tighten right? If this is not the case, drop David or Shawn a pm.

I've got a Thunderstorm Cafe Racer and I've never had any string wear issues. Are there any dings? What type of string are you using?

I too have never had a string problem with any of my three cafe racers.

I have 5 cafe racers and never snapped a string.

What kind of string are you using?

First report of this. Our manufacturing process makes this very unlikely. If its happening to you on two yoyos I'd say something else is going on. What string? How long are you using the string? Any other info?

Worst case you can send them to us to inspect.

No dings that could make this happen. I am using Orange G-string, and I know it's not the string because I used the string on my other yoyos for at least a week with no breakage. The string always breaks near the same spot too, so it's either the string (which I highly doubt, unless I happen to only use dud string on my caferacers), or something to do with the yoyo(s). the all three strings snapped about an inch above the string loop that goes around the bearing

Try cleaning them with Windex.

Also how long is taking to happen?

It takes maybe 1 hour to snap the string. I have rubbed it down with my jeans in case it was something, but it does not help.

The only thing I can think of is that sometimes there is a residue left from the splash masking and maybe that is causing it. Windex should get that off.

Maybe I did get some dud string, seeing as it is only mee, and I got them both from different store. It's just really weird. I'll try the windex thing

It's very weird that it is so specific as well and that you don't notice anything out of the ordinary on the yoyo itself. If there was something shaving the string, you'd notice it.

Not trying to revive a dead thread, but I was thinking of getting a cafe racer, and this thread ends like a novel you've read all the way through, only to find out that the last page is ripped out of the book! Swatnoodle, any feedback on if the Windex trick fixed it, or was it just dud string after all?

There is no need for any worry, caferacers are amazing, and it seems like he was the only one who was running into the problems. I've had 4 different caferacers, one was even raw aluminum, and never ran into this issue.

This.

String cutting problems definitely weren't an epidemic with this yoyo. It's a great yoyo, and you should definitely get one if you're considering it. Great carry yoyo too! 8-)

I have a Purple Nurple Cafe Racer and I actually did have a string snap on me. I think it was a case of using a string for too long. To quote David on something I've found to be 100% true, One Drop doesn't make string saws.
