What is the bearing situation nowadays?
Been out of the game for about 2-3 years now.
I've been insanely stoked on throwing as of the last month or so, and I am going to pick up a Onedrop x CLYW Summit soon.
I was wondering what everyone is doing about their bearing setup these days..
I still have a KonKave in my Project 2, and I remember they use to have a lame reputation, but regardless of all the 10 ball one drop bearings I own, it's my longest spinning bearing, by far.
What's everyone doing now?

I still just use a 10-Ball in most everything. I am not a fan of gimmick bearings such as the KK or the modern replacement, the Center Track. Trick bearings cause the string to bunch in strange ways and Center Track bearings are just too damn loud.

Rumor has it that some folks around here have not be able to figure out how to remove their bearings, so they are stuck with whatever came in their yoyo... Hey, at least they'll never "lose their bearings"! db P.S. I just stick with the 10-ball myself.

Personally, I just play with w/e comes in the yoyo, so mostly 10-ball. This day and age, you shouldn't worry much about spin times from one bearing to the next, as they'll all be comparable unless something is wrong with the bearing.

Would you guys say it's a bad thing that I play with "gimmick" bearings such as the Konkave? It's what I've had in my P2 since who knows how long.

Whatever works for you...although there are plenty of individuals around who will insist you are wrong/bad if you are not of their opinion..but you won't find many of them around these parts! I've tried a concave bearing on a couple different yoyos, and it felt a little too strange and different compared to what I'm used to, so I never bothered with them again. db

It's absolutely not bad at all, it's completely preference. Just because I like 10-ball doesn't make it absolutely best, it's just best for me. I highly encourage you to take what people have to say with a grain of salt, and just experiment for yourself and see what you like. Here's the other thing that most people don't mention: bearings can differ from one to the next. I have some 10-balls that I haven't cleaned in a LONG time that just don't feel as nice to me as some of my fresher, more clean 10-balls (I need to not be lazy and clean those older bearings ). So, keep in mind that some people, unfortunately, have a bad experience with a certain bearing that may just be bad, and then they write it off for good. On the other hand, there are people, like saintrobyn, dirtybirdy, and myself that have a lot of experience with different types of bearings over years and have developed our own preference. TL;DR - your bearing choice is not bad at all, I would encourage you to continue to try new stuff and be open and stick with what you like, not what others tell you to like.

Re: What is the bearing situation nowadays?
I agree with DB and Vendetta. Specialty bearings (I call them trick or gimmick bearings sometimes) my not be my cup of tea but there is nothing wrong with playing them. While I may not like how they bunch the string others swear by the string centering nature of the KK bearing. As far as the noise is concerned, again it is personal preference. I hate loud bearings, others could care less. It is up to you where your preferences lay. Bearings are like string, everyone has their own preference. I recommend you do what a lot of us have done; play a boat load of different bearings and find what suits you best.

Re: What is the bearing situation nowadays?
Cool, well thank you guys much for the responses. I figure I'll probably order a new 10-ball that I'll then lube or just play as it is and see if I can get used to it. I can play fine with flat bearings, it's just a bit different for me.
Anyone available to tell me when more V4M lube will be available? It's out of stock everywhere!
