 Favourite weight Side Effect?
Hi, my first post here at OneDrop. Thanks to everyone at OneDrop for making the most gorgeous yo-yos in the known universe. Anyway, I was interested in what the most popular weight for the 54? So, only including weight / aesthetics Side Effects (spike, dome and ultra lights), what do you keep in your 54? My vote is down for the aluminium ultra-lights. Just feels so right (though my opinion is liable to change), can't stop throwing it. What weight do you throw?

 Re: Favourite weight Side Effect?
Any weight really. The ultra-lights are the best for the 54 in my opinion too. But right now I have the brass lego on mine. Feels great! But when I throw 5a, I prefer the brass domes. I haven't tried the brass spikes or the aluminum domes yet though. Once I get the RSMs in the mail, I'm pretty sure I'll just have that on forever.

I tend to use ultralights, the just look and feel awesome in it. I use aluminum for 1a and brass for 5a.

I prefer the Ultra's myself I have the Brass in one and the AL in the other. Best of both worlds I guess.

I use Ultra Lights in my standard 54 but I like the feel of the aluminum Lego SEs in my Obsidian 54.

 Re: Favourite weight Side Effect?
It interesting that lots of people are liking their 54 around the 61-62grams mark, when virtually all quality 1a yo-yos are between 64 and 68g. 63-64 is considered an "ultra light", as in the SPYY Speed Freak or the YYF Supernova Lite. Does stability really suffer when you get below 60g? Did anyone throw the 49g Werrd Pacquiao? Is it a disaster? Am I going off topic?

 Re: Favourite weight Side Effect?
I generally prefer the brass spikes in my Nickel 54, which I use for 1a, and the brass domes in my NQP 54, which I use for 5a. But I do use all the side effects. It's a lot of fun to be able to alter the feel of the 54 so dramatically, especially when switching from the brass spikes to the aluminum ultra lights. I find lighter yoyos to be more agile and easier to play fast with. But I generally don't play fast, since I don't compete and I've never found myself late while yoyoing . Heavier yoyos tend to feel more stable to me. Whether they are or not in actuality, I don't know. I do know that I was surprised to find myself preferring the brass domes and brass spikes. There's no doubt that they add center weight, which means that with those SEs the yoyo is less rim weighted as a percentage of overall weight. But they just feel good to me. And I haven't noticed the 54 spinning less with them installed. Haven't thrown a Pac - I'd also be curious to hear from someone who has.

I am also on the AL ultralight bandwagon. I like the brass spikes every now and then if i'm trying to work on the flow of a certain trick. altanner wrote: It interesting that lots of people are liking their 54 around the 61-62grams mark, when virtually all quality 1a yo-yos are between 64 and 68g. I find that in yoyo size it's more about how the weight is distributed over the whole body than how much it actually weighs. And the pacquaio is really interesting feeling, i would recommend you try it if the chance ever arises but you should definitely try one before you buy one, the weight is not for everyone!

He's a Philippine hero and my idol so.... Anyway, regarding weight, the Dingo is very light but whenever I throw it, I feel like it weights more than it does. And I love it! It just proves that it's not always the overall weight but the weight distribution.

I have the alu ultra lights and brass domes/spikes. I find myself playing with the domes the most. I want to try the brass ultra's, I bet that will be the yoyoing nirvana for me.

 Re: Favourite weight Side Effect?
I like the Ultralights myself. Probably the brass ones a little more than the aluminum. Aluminum is nice but sometimes I'm not very precise and the aluminum gets a little too fast.

 Re: Favourite weight Side Effect?
Well, I'm not a fast player (and when watching skilled players I prefer a slower, more deliberate style than lightning speed stuff) but I prefer the light weight - I just feel smoother when the yo-yo is light. It feels like I'm moving with the yo-yo more when it is lighter.

 Re: Favourite weight Side Effect?
I like the brass spikes the best. I'll switch to the aluminum spikes every once in a blue moon, but the weight of the brass spikes makes the 54 feel PERFECT!
I'm so glad One Drop has produced so many options. I feel like it would have been easy for them to have made nothing but spikes and domes, but the fact that they're still coming out with new options makes the 54 and all upcoming Side Effect yoyos nearly perfect for everyone.
