Hi folk. With lots of technical discussion about the 54 (and innovative side-effects) going on elsewhere, I thought I'd open a thread just to discuss the yoyo itself. I'm sure many folk will have them popping up in the mail very soon, and may need somewhere to rant about it's wonders.
MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
My green/pewter NQP arrived in the mail today. It's both beautiful and an awesome player. My favorite one-drop so far (along with the dingo). Side-effects change in and out easily and produce just enough change in play to make them interesting. They work great! It's rock solid and uncannily vibeless when spinning - land it for a palm grind and you'd swear it was dead. It grinds for a loooong time.
The spikes are REALLY spikey, and not super comfortable in the hand. They lower weight of the spikes makes it play very nimble for the size.
Brass domes add just enough weight to give it real authority on the string - floaty/weighty. Somehow the weight ratio and shape seems to make it play like an giant M1. When it hits the string in a trapeze, that momentum is going to take the string with it - a quality that gives it a great smooth flow during tricks.
The 54 now taken equal place with the dingo as my all time favorite throws, and it isn't even broken in yet!. Well done OneDrop
