This project is a work in progress. After seeing all the really great entries we have refined our notion of what we are looking for. While some of the more complex designs are really cool ideas, we won't be passing those through. The reason is because the prototyping and manufacturing process will just be too complicated on those. As it was, it took us 2 years to perfect Side Effects.

For those that have submitted the more complex ideas (especially the interchangeable rim ones), you will not pass through to phase 2 with that design. Since there is plenty of time left you can submit another idea that is less complex to make.

Thanks for posting this so soon into the contest. One Drop always wins the most.

Also! We did some cursory research on changeable rims and it appears that there are several patents already issued though not implemented in the market. The Pocket Change is one exception. I can tell you from the SideEffect experience that involving patent lawyers in anything you do will increase time and money spent exponentially.

That's really too bad to hear. I would have loved to see a good system for exchanging rims. oh well!

Clarification on a couple of things:

1. Any extras like accessory boxes, books, etc, will probably not be made. The goal of this project is to design a yoyo. The extras that have been presented so far are really cool and who knows if they will turn into something. Keep in mind when you vote that it is for the yoyo only.

2. For the name of the yoyo, it will be "CODE2: <name the designer comes up with>"
