When you guys announced the GZR idea, 54 immediately came to mind as the model being most interesting in 7075. Couldn't have asked for a better color, either. Copped, needless to say.

I figured you'd be all over one, Aaron. I'll be curious to trade notes with you once you've had some time with yours. BigOregon wrote: ya know... I've never played a 54 before... I love the play of the code1, code2 and dietz... How does it compare? It's very different from all of those. It has a higher wall, which gives it a different play experience that I like quite a bit for frontstyle. The original was on the light side - I found it to be very zippy and fun, but a lit less stable than I tend to like, though that was largely solved with the brass spikes. Other folks really liked the lightness. With ultralights it's less than 62 grams, making it a very versatile yoyo as far as weight goes. I also liked the shape quite a bit. It's comfortable, but utilizes the entire profile as a catch zone, which makes it a very good 5a yoyo as well. Definitely the best, most innovative yoyo of 2010 in my book. Here's a couple reviews: http://www.highspeedyoyo.com/reviews/n-z/one-drop-yoyos/one-drop-54http://www.yoyoskills.com/?p=6317

The 54 was the first One drop yoyo (really the first decent high end yoyo ) i bought and i always have a soft spot for it. It plays nothing like any of the other One drops. Its got that classic organic shape, and the versatility of the Side effects. It's a good yoyo for stress relief yoyoing. Hehe. I pick mine up every day when i get home and play it for a while to unwind. I'm torn between aluminum ultralights, or aluminum spikes as my preferred set-up on it. With the ultralights it's alot faster and floatier, with the Spikes it is a little more solid still with a decent amount of float to it though. Needless to say, it's the best playing organic shaped yoyo out there in my opinion, and will always be in my top 3.

I think that the 54 GZR is awesome! It is amazing how different this one feels from the original. Much faster and much more stable. It is almost a completely different yoyo. The original 54 is a OneDrop classic. But this special edition is ... special. I wish I was good enough to really give it a true test. I think that some of the retail sites ought to look at selling this edition. It is that good IMHO. Way to go OneDrop!

I was an unabashed fan of the original, but i thought that extra bit of weight would really give it the boost it needed. I can't wait to try one.

Oh Man that is so sweet. Is the Coating 'Pewter' coloured Anno, or actual Pewter Plating?
What I would like to see is a GZR Burnside in Nickel.

D Ouch, Haha. A GZR Burnside would be almost 70g 0 - 0

Re: New Release: GZR 54 in Pewter
You figured correctly, jrod. Can't wait to get my hands on this. Have to have somebody ship it to me once it gets to my parents' house in the US though... The original 54... Don't really know where to begin. I think this GZR version is my 10th 54. I feel like that probably says enough. That's bananas. It truly is a blend of classic and totally modern, more than any yoyo I can think of, off the top of my head. I distinctly recall a period of time when a lot of people played their 54s with aluminum Ultra Lights, myself included. That's incredibly light (like 61g or something) and yet... It was surprisingly stable at that weight. GZR with aluminum ULs is going to be a winner... I can already see it.

D Ouch, Haha. A GZR Burnside would be almost 70g 0 - 0 Seriously that would suit me. I regularly throw 68-80g yoyo's I even throw 100g around at times. Now that is heavy. A GZR Burnside would be about as Perfect as I can Imagine. Hey YoAaronD, I guess you are a fan of the 54 then... Do you still have them all or have you been trading on the way? D

Re: New Release: GZR 54 in Pewter
Aussie Friend,
I once had a Nickel 54 and an Obsidian 54, and I sold them. I needed money for something. Wish I hadn't done that. Oh, and I had two of the YYE exclusive Green Mist 54, so I sold one. Those are the only 54s I've traded away. I think this GZR 54 will make 10 54s for me, but my yoyo collection is split between two continents, so I'm not entirely sure. It might only be 8... I really can't quite recall. That's probably the indicator that you have way, way too many yoyos...
I can sign off on a GZR Burnside, by the way. I would buy one of those. That thing sounds like the most aggressive yoyo ever to lay waste to one's wrists.

Re: New Release: GZR 54 in Pewter
Problem with the burnside is you cant just slap a pair of ultra lights in it if you think its too heavy XD. but itd bring it up to i think 69g? since burnside is 66. Itd still be in a range that people would play, people play stuff thats 68-70 all the time

A 54 group shot would be so cool. The burnside is my Fav throw. A GZR Burnside would be agressive, but in an awesome way. D
