 Re: New Machine Day?
This image has appropriate levels of not only machine, but also granola. Well done. I approve of it. Some day, I'm finally going to make it out to Eugene and behold all of this in person. Until then, I salute you all from afar.

 Re: New Machine Day?
So David, Is this new lathe a double spindle lathe so you can perform both Op 1 and Op 2 (a complete Side Effect) without human intervention? db

What all is needed to set up the machine? I know the last machine took a little time before you were able to run it.

This is a small machine with a 3 horsepower main spindle and a 2 horsepower sub spindle. It is a "boxway" machine and also has the drive servos connected to the ball screws via toothed belts. All this is supposed to conspire to make the machine very rigid and thermally stable. Expect videos...

 Re: New Machine Day?
Videos are a must.
Sounds like it is going to make life a little easier on you guys. It is great seeing you guys expanding like this.
Going back and actually doing my homework... this unit looks to only handle 1 1/16" bar stock. Does this mean it can't be hand fed a larger piece of aluminum?

We could hand feed larger pieces but it would be a challenge for the machine's 3hp spindle to do much productive work. Also, hand feeding isn't really necessary since we have another lathe for that. This machine will run mostly 1/2" stock for making SideEffects and a little bit of 1" stock for big disks.

Does this also tap the Side Effects or is that a separate process entirely.
