How to build a DIY Case
Ok this is a tutorial of sorts so I figured it will go into the Learn section.. I am going to redo my case and since people always say how nice my case is why not share the process. Ok first this is the case as it sits. Fortunately my collection has grown. Now I dont want a bigger case so I decided to make the current one hold more. I ordered some foam from http://www.foambymail.com its in route as we speak. I ordered the packaging foam>Charcoal Foam. For the bottom it will be 1.5" thick firm foam, and for the top it will be 1" regular foam. First thing I had to decide was how to create something that can hold more yoyos in the same given space of 19" x 10.5" the circular cuts take up to much room so I decided to make them square cuts and the yoyos will rest sideways in each slot. So off we went this morning and made a template out of cardboard. Took some good math and alot of exacto blades but the template is made. Now were just waiting for the foam to arrive.. As you can see we went from 18 slots to a whopping 32 slots. Until we meet again. Brett

Re: How to build a DIY Case
Ok foam came in today and I brought my supplies.. I used the following supplies: Razor Blade Exacto Knife (w Fresh Blades) Scissors Straight Edges 12" and 36" Sharpies First thing we needed to do is line the top part of the case. I used regular charcoal packing foam for this 1" thick.. I needed to cut it to 19" x 10.5" To do this I found a straight edge on the foam and then measured using my straight edges as guides. I Then marked the lines with a sharpie and carefully cut them with scissors since this foam is very pliable and easy to cut. With the top part cut, lets put it in and see how it fits.. PERFECT.. Now we have to cut the same dimensions on the bottom part. This is a much firmer foam so the scissors won't work. I had to make the lines and carefully cut them along the 36" straight edge. With the top cut to size I then put the template we made on top and proceeded to trace the squares with a sharpie. I will manually have to cut these squares, all 32 of them.. I used the exacto knife first scoring the line with the straight edge and then cutting the rest freehand until I was thru the foam. Since this foam is 1.5" thick I had to make multiple passes thru. First dozen cut, and this is getting boring and tedious already LOL.. 20 more to go.. All 32 squares cut. And she is almost ready to go. I wanted to put just a little slot on the side to hold 3-5 string. I don't need to carry 50-100 strings. If something happens I got other yoyos. So what I did was first cut the side of the foam in half. I used a razor blade for this. I went in almost to the edge of the first wall of yoyos. Then I cut the square out from the top. This gave me a recess in the foam about 3.5" long by about 1 inch wide and deep.. Perfect to hold the string. And here she is in her new clothing with my current collection loaded.. Not to shabby for a few dollars worth of foam.. And there you have it.. A brand new case from the old case that almost holds twice as many yoyos and a lot better looking, at least to me.. Hope this helps someone.. Brett

Re: How to build a DIY Case
And the finished product now with a groove slot above the strings to hold spare counterweights when they get here.. 16mm die seem to work great for me. So I made a slot to hold 4 counterweights. I also recessed a slot on the right to hold my ever trusty exacto knife..

Re: How to build a DIY Case
Too much time on your hands!!!! Why don't you just do it right once, then you won't have to cut anymore foam? How do you do it right, you ask? You organize your yoyos in a pattern of the 1Drop Logo!!!!!!!!! Yes...We have a winner!!!!! Go get 'em, Brett!!!! I'll check back tonight, after the Wings beat the Penguins again! db

Re: How to build a DIY Case
Ok more modding going on.. Made room for counterweights, my 4gb USB(music/yoyo vids) my jewelers screwdriver, some extra counterweights, a holder for my Silicone Pads, my Duncan Keychain, a holder for my Thin Lube, and a holder for extra axles and bearings. Couple yoyos missing from the case due to polishing or trades coming in Werrd 4XL Delorean YYJ Xconvict Polished Big Brothers Proto Polished

Re: How to build a DIY Case
Gonna make a case out of an old lunch box!
did you just press fit the foam for the lid, or was there some glue / double sided tape involved? Will post pictures as it develops...
